How to relieve and prevent eye strain?

March 18th, 2009. Posted by anthony under Computer eye strain

Eye strain has become one of the leading office-related health problem. This has become even a common problem for people who work or surf the net often. Eyestrain causes a dull, aching sensation around and behind the eyes that can progress into a generalized headache. It may feel painful or fatiguing to focus the eyes for prolonged periods on a fixed object. Eyestrain is commonly a result of overuse of the eyes for activities requiring close and precise focus, such as reading, embroidering, sewing or using the computer. Experts estimate 50% to 90% of computer users experience some degree of eyestrain or other symptoms of computer vision syndrome (CVS) during their work day. You can relieve eyestrain by using following practical tips:

  • Get a computer eye exam.
  • Use proper lighting.
  • Exercise your eyes.
  • Take frequent breaks.
  • Minimize glare.
  • Upgrade your display.
  • Adjust the brightness and contrast of your computer screen.
  • Blink more often.
  • Modify your workstation.
